Aminoacyl (Phe, Gly) derivatives of nucleoside aliphatic analogues bearing a hydroxyalkyl chain have been prepared by the condensation of the alcohols with N-benzyloxycarbonyl-amino acid in the presence of DCC followed by hydrogenolysis in methanol. These compounds inhibit peptidyl transferase activity and binding of acceptor substrate to E. coli ribosomes. The inhibitory activity is not much affected by the nature of either the aminoacyl or the heterocyclic base residue. In the transfer reaction, no peptide bond formation occurs with the above compounds as acceptors.

o-Nitrobenzyl group was introduced to the 2'-hydroxyl function of uridine via 2',3'-O-(dibutylstannylene) uridine. The benzylated uridine was protected at the 5'-hydroxyl group with monomethoxytrityl chloride and condensed with 2',3'-O-dibenzoyluridine 5'-phosphate or N,N',2',3'-O-tetrabenzoyladenosine 5'-phosphate using dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC). o-Nitrobenzyl ether linkage of the dinucleotides was removed by UV irradiation with wavelength longer than 320 nm. Deprotected UpU and UpA thus obtained were characterized by RNase A digestion.

A quantitative serological difference was found between strains Hz1 and M505 carrying mutant H-2 haplotypes ba and bd, respectively, and the original strain B6(H-2(b)). The finding suggests that the mutations occurred in the H-2K(b) gene, and together with data on MLR and CML challenges the current concept of H-2 regions' involvement in immune reactions.
